I began my woodworking journey over 30 years ago with a table saw purchased in a garage sale for $100 dollars.
From my point of views as a woodworker, I understand that creativity is a gift and reflection in the human nature touched by God. I’m fascinated and inspired by the incredible complexity in burl wood as well as how it fells, looks and smells. Working with irregularities and flaws in wood allows me to see the way we interact with objects in our daily lives. I apply many techniques before a new piece is created. To roughly shape the wood, I use traditional turning tools or a chainsaw to balance the weight before I attach the log on the lathe.
I love working with hand tools, I am obsessed with balance and precision. My desire is to create modest and natural objects pleasing to the eye, like I always imagined “Ikebana”; organic simplicity and lines of natural edges, carving, sculpting, inlays and the combination of other elements such as crude stone, fossils, metal, copper, mother pearl; in cooperating with wood quite details and accents that both surprise and delight the senses.
However, we naturally seek a personal and intuitive relationship with our surroundings that make a home feel serene and mindful which is quite an emotional experience to witness all of this and be a part of it.
“My wife always tell me that I shall live forever.”
When I cut my lumber for rocking chairs or furniture, or start turning, building guitars or carving, even out of driftwood; it always takes my breath away after I see the dramatic figure which gives me expression of freedom, inspiring me or which leads me to discussion with my wife.
Wood is responsive, distinctive and expressive: wood tells its own story.
Ideas and inspiration are everywhere. I love to paint, cook, bake fresh bread, garden and fish. I love to make my own wine, make a fire outside, play instruments and sing. I love my wife and four children…just look around you. Let enthusiasm drive your work and love what you do. Find harmony in your life.
Poland is my first home; with a great old history, four seasons, Baltic sea, mountains. It is where I was born, raised and got married. All four of our children were born in Austin, Texas, our second home. My inspiration was my Father, who built boats in Poland, and my heroes are “Clint Eastwood” and “Sam Maloof”.!
