Based on his passion for nature and art, artist Bruce Taylor, is nationally renowned for his artistic design, attention to anatomic detail, and commitment to high quality. Bruce is self-taught in the art of wildlife carving and world-class painting. He specializes in creating one of a kind woodcarvings with outstanding detail. His carvings possess great energy, realism and beauty. Bruce began as a taxidermist, owning his own business in the late 1980's. In 1999 he carved his first wood carving and was immediately recognized by his peers as having a gift. In 2000 he entered one of his fish in the National Taxidermy Competitions and won "Judges Best of Show." "Working with a natural material such as wood, gives me the freedom to create any type of wildlife I want; in any position and in any size." Over the last few years Bruce has expanded his carving ability to include birds such as puffins and eagles. More recent works of his include sea turtles, amphibians, and snakes. Bruce begins by hand and power carves the shape of the piece, then he burns all the details into the wood using a wood burning tool; individually creating every fish scale or bird feather, giving the piece the most realistic texture. Glass eyes are used and often these are hand painted as well. The final stage of the process is painting the piece, which then brings it to life. May colors are hand mixed and applied by airbrush and by hand to give it a world class, natural finish.
